Sustainability

“Give a family a kilo of food and you feed them for a day, teach them how to grow the food and you feed them for a lifetime.”

Dr Donald Van Cooten, OnePlate Agricultural Scientist.
Breaking the Hunger Cycle

At OnePlate, we believe that funding sustainable food projects can be a powerful means of transforming a community. Empowering the local communities we work with by developing their capacity and encouraging self-reliance are defining characteristics of our approach and impact.

While the projects we invest in abroad provide organic and nutritional food sources for children and their families, they also provide a way to educate and empower communities with the necessary knowledge and skillsets to be self-sufficient in growing and securing their own food. In the long-term, this creates significant impact on the health and wellbeing of those in the greatest of need.

Another vital aspect of our work is the renewed sense of hope, meaning and purpose that comes about because of the creative, hands-on nature of our projects. Our urban farms, rooftop gardens, and agricultural workshops symbolise a unique connection to time and place which can often become a therapeutic outlet, especially for children in our projects who have lived on the streets.

What is Sustainable Farming and why is it important for our wellbeing.
